History of Mt. Morris Chapel
Over 25 years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Erv Saultman sold their home in Flint and moved to Mt. Morris to the Highlands Mobile Home Community. Their pastor at that time, Rev. Charles Malson, encouraged them to start a Bible Study for people of their new area. That Bible Study started in 1980 and soon grew into a weekly Sunday service in the Community room in the Highlands.
Because of the continuing growth of the group, they moved across the road to the “Red Barn” at the entrance of Dutch Village Mobile Home Park for their services. It wasn’t too long until the young congregation began to think and talk about building their own church. The present church stands on the land that was acquired and is right next door to the Red Barn, located at 2232 E. Mt. Morris Rd.
The Lord provided the land and because of the hard work of lots of volunteers the building was completed and occupied in 1976 . The Richfield Road United Brethren Church is our “mother church.” While Mt. Morris Chapel was developing into a church, they “loaned” some people to help in various capacities in the early days. We have them to thank for their contribution of time, finances, and hard work.
Pastor Erv and Goldie Saultman faithfully served the church from its start -- for 18 years. Since the retirement of Pastor Saultman, there have been 4 pastors. Pastor Dave Burkett took up his responsibilities as pastor in August of 2004.
